Heck, the wealth didn’t even extend into Worcester County.

A recent Boston Business Journal ranking of the top 25 Massachusetts municipalities with the most million-dollar earners didn’t include any communities from Western or Central Massachusetts.

This matters because where there is wealth, there is influence and Western Massachusetts has a long history of paying the price of that influence imbalance. Ponying up for the corrupt Big Dig and flooding area communities to create the Quabbin Reservoir for the people out East are among the examples of Western Mass getting a raw deal.

The community with the most millionaires is, naturally, Boston with about 2,500 million-dollar tax filers there in 2017, the most recent information available from the Boston Business Journal. From 2016 to 2017, the city received 339 new millionaires.

The next communities with the most millionaires are Newton with nearly 1,500 million-dollar earners and Wellesley with 979.

Natick rounds out the bottom of the list, ranked 25, with 141 millionaires reportedly living there.
